Friday Notes


Notes from today's training session:

  • Our injury report: OUT: Leonard Griffin (sports hernia surgery); Yohance Marshall (R MCL sprain); QUESTIONABLE: Tristan Bowen (L knee sprain); PROBABLE: Donovan Ricketts (R adductor tightness).
  • Columbus Crew's injury report: OUT: Adam Moffat (L hamstring strain); Andy Iro (L quad strain); DOUBTFUL: William Hesmer (back lumbar strain).
  • Defender Julian Valentin was loaned out this week to the Cleveland City Stars of the USL-1. His loan is scheduled for one month.
  • Generation adidas forward Israel Sesay will be on loan with Hollywood United this weekend for their games on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Barcelona can win the La Liga on Sunday with a win or a draw against Mallorca. The title would be Barca's 19th league title. On Wednesday, Barcelona captured the Copa Del Rey championship by beating Athletic Bilbao, 4-1, in final. Barcelona comes to Los Angeles on Aug. 1 to take on the LA Galaxy at the Rose Bowl.
  • AC Milan need a win and an Inter loss or draw to stay in the hunt for the Serie A title. David Beckham is suspended for this game. AC Milan travels comes to Los Angeles to play the LA Galaxy on July 19 at The Home Depot Center.

That's John Farnworth. This is what he can do. Farnworth, the World Freestyle Football Champion, will be attempting to break the Guiness World Record for most face rolls on Sunday at The Home Depot Center-- 30 minutes prior to the game at SoccerFest in the main concourse.

Thanks for the training pics. Glad to knwo the guys are working hard to get ready for this weekend. I believe these pics are showing us that the focus for today's training session were: marking; applying pressure correctly; positioning; making runs with and without the ball; and, ability to get onto the end of crosses. I hope one-touch and two-touch passing were also practiced and drilled on. Remember, if Columbus place Emmanuel Ekpo on right, Robbie Rogers on left, and Alejandro Moreno & Eddie Gaven up-top... then, these four constitute a constant dangerous threat around the 18-yeard box. Again, I know we have to keep our defensive shape, positioning, and formation paramount... but, we have got to get in attacking and counter runs in as well - and, we've got to do it plenty of times - not just like four times in a whole match. Come on, LA Galaxy team - you guys are at home... let's play very hard and very commandingly to get those three points!!!
