Magee Leads Galaxy Past Colorado

Mike Magee scored twice in the first half to lead the LA Galaxy to a 2-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids in an preseason scrimmage played in Casa Grande, Ariz. Magee opened the scoring in the 7th minute and then added a second in the 33rd as the Galaxy improved to 1-0-1 during their 10-day camp.
Magee re-directed home a left wing cross from Eddie Lewis to put the Galaxy up 1-0. He doubled the lead less than 30 minutes later when he tapped in a low Tristan Bowen cross. After a string of passes through the midfield, the ball came to Juninho whose angled through ball picked out Bowen who drew Colorado keeper Matt Pickens toward him before squaring the ball for Magee who was left the easiest of finishes.

Bruce Arena again made wholesale changes at the break, replacing 10 of his starters, leaving just Todd Dunivant on the field for the full 90 minutes.

Bryan Jordan, Jovan Kirovski, Alex Cazumba and Yohance Marshall all had chances after the break, but were unable to add to the two-goal lead.

Donovan Ricketts and Josh Saunders were not called upon to do a lot in goal for the Galaxy, with each making a couple of saves. Including the 4-0 win over UCLA two weeks ago, the pair has combined to keep the shutouts in all three of the Galaxy's preseason games so far in 2010.

The Galaxy are back in action on Friday when they scrimmage against the Kansas City Wizards on Friday. The same two teams meet again on Sunday before returning to Los Angeles, where the club will finish out their preseason, on Monday morning.

Galaxy Lineup: Donovan Ricketts (Josh Saunders 46'); Todd Dunivant, Gregg Berhalter (Leonardo 46'), Omar Gonzalez (Yohance Marshall 46'), Sean Franklin (A.J. DeLaGarza 46'); Dema Kovalenko (Chris Birchall 46'), Eddie Lewis (Alex Cazumba 46'), Juninho (Michael Stephens 46'), Tristan Bowen (Chris Klein 46'); Mike Magee (Jovan Kirovski 46'), Edson Buddle (Bryan Jordan 46').

He looked real good in the final last year. If Alecko doesn't get the green light, we'll need him to continue providing some punch with his foot.
