Turning A Dream Into Reality

Sueño MLS is back! And the LA Galaxy will be one of three teams participating in this year's search. Additionally, the Galaxy will also host the finals at The Home Depot Center the week of the "SuperClasico."

The journey to turn a dream into reality begins today for thousands of young soccer players as pre-registration opened for Sueño MLS 2009 - built by The Home Depot. Starting today (Sunday, March 8) hopefuls are able to register via www.SuenoMLS.com for an opportunity to participate in the premier search for undiscovered soccer talent in the United States. The tryouts and personal stories will be chronicled weekly by Univision's popular weekly sports show, "República Deportiva" (Sports Republic).

Now in its third year, Sueño MLS expands to three markets, including for the first time cities in the Midwest and East Coast. The Chicago Fire, DC United and the LA Galaxy will each host tryouts, with four local winners from each city moving on to an exciting four-day "Final Event" in Los Angeles. The finals will include training sessions, scrimmages, guest celebrity scouts, and an opportunity to meet some of the league's biggest stars at the "SuperClasico" game between the LA Galaxy and Chivas USA on April 11. The ultimate champion will be crowned on Sunday, April 12, live (EST) on "República Deportiva" (see Key Dates section in the press release).

To participate, players must be at least 16 years old (with appropriate identification) and retain their amateur status. Current collegiate student athletes will not be permitted to attend the final event in Los Angeles. Sueño MLS participants will be responsible for all personal expenses associated with the local market tryout, including travel to local tryouts, lodging, food, soccer equipment (shoes, training gear, etc.), etc. Program sponsors will cover all expenses for twelve (12) participants selected to attend the final event in Los Angeles, CA. For more information, please visit www.SuenoMLS.com. Participation in the event is free. Players may not register for more than one city.

We will have more information on the event at a later date, but we can tell you right now that the Galaxy tryouts will be at the San Bernardino Soccer Complex on March 28 and 29.

Personally, I am very glad to see the LA Galaxy organization take part in this endeavor and to be able to hold the finals here in LA. I hope more "grass-roots" events like this keep getting the notice and interest from the LA Galaxy organization. I hope, alos, that preparations and training sessions for the U-16 & U-18 LA Galaxy Academy are going to be underway. Man... the San Bernardino Soccer Complex is just way to far for me to drive & attend. That's at least a 2.5 hour drive for me.

Galaxy decision-makers need to do more than participate this "grass-roots" events. They need to give SERIOUS consideration to the hopefuls. What happened with the Open Tryouts? Bruce Arena did not evaluate the players. How many of them received a contract? What a better way to build the fan base. I would rather pay money to see players I know.
