Working for the Weekend

The Galaxy held their final training session of the week today at The Home Depot Center, playing some small-sided games and working through a series of drills ahead of the upcoming games against Colorado on April 4 and April 7.

While most of the players will be off on both Saturday and Sunday (injured players will be in for treatments on Saturday morning), there is definitely a lot going on around the Galaxy this weekend.

Before we get to the weekend schedule, be sure to check out Paul Oberjuerge's piece in today's New York Times about Landon Donovan and his position as a lightning rod for criticism, despite his wealth of talent.

The focus this weekend will be on the youth as the Galaxy are hosting the local tryouts for Sueño MLS in San Bernardino on Saturday and Sunday. In addition, the Youth Academy will play a pair of games this weekend, with both the U-16 and U-18 teams playing Arsenal on Saturday and FC Portland on Sunday.

We'll have more from the Academy later today and will keep you updated on everything that is going on at Sueño throughout the weekend, including the appearances of Dema, Edson, Omar and Stefani at the First Kick Ceremony on Saturday afternoon.

Follow these links to learn more about the U-16 team, the U-18 team and Sueño MLS.

Additionally, all MLS games and a host of international matches are on TV this weekend, giving you the chance to enjoy a soccer-packed weekend without leaving the sofa or the laptop.

But if you feel the need to watch a professional game live in person this weekend, come out to The Home Depot Center for the inaugural game of the WPS and the Los Angeles Sol as they host the Washington Freedom at The Home Depot Center. The game kicks off at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

I've really got to commend you guys. You have really stepped up the coverage of the Galaxy on the blog. I greatly appreciate it. And I appreciate your linking to articles and podcasts, etc., about our team.

Well done and keep up the good work.

Guys,
Thanks for giving all of us the updates on all of what is happening this weekend. I hope the players felt they had a solid, impactful three days of training this week. Working on all of the essentials iss o important as this season gets going. What I hope is that every player during training is taking it upon himself to markedly improve in different areas of their game, but also to make real efforts in improving timing, coordination, and communication amongst each other. When the LA Galaxy come out to play against Colorado - they will look to battle, push, and make it as frustrating as possible. That's when our player's confidence, strength, cool-heads, and thoroughly practiced coordination will help so much. Again, I wish all of the injured players steady recovery.
I am glad that the blog is sharing and posting info on our Youth Academy - they really do deserve the notice and all of our suuport. I hope both the U-16 and U-18 squads have much better games this weekend. Wish them lots of luck! And, not the least - I wish nothing but the best adn much better turn-outs and success for our WPS - and, especially the LA SOL.
So much soccer this weekend, it's great!!! I'm so glad the MLS season has started up again.
Wish our USMNT lots of luck, strength, and awesome play against El Salvador and T&T!
