UPDATED: Sueño MLS Day 1

If you weren't in San Bernardino, you definitely missed out on quite an event. We mean, it's not everyday you get a chance to play soccer tennis with Dema Kovalenko! Dema, after finishing his shift in the autograph booth, went to the soccer tennis court and took on any fan who would be willing to play him. Many step up to the challenge, but none was able to defeat the champ.

Be sure to watch Univision's Republica Deportiva tomorrow live at 11 a.m. to see what else you missed and find out more about the players who came out to tryout. Also, Republica Deportiva, which is filmed in Miami, will be throwing it live to San Bernardino throughout the show, so don't miss out.

The day started with more than 600 participants, but ended with 24. We just got done calling those 24, and some of them wouldn't help but shed tears of joy. They'll be back at the San Bernardino Soccer Complex tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. The scouts had a hard time selecting the 24, as there was a lot of good talent that showed up a the complex to tryout. The process is not likely to get any easier on Sunday when they need to pick four to advance to the finals.

More Day 1 pictures (Special thanks to German Alegria for the pictures)

Check back tomorrow, we'll have video, pictures and info on the four local winners and the finals.

From everybody out there in San Bernardino (Karina, Edson, Dema, Natalia, Omar, Stefani, Sam and the blog staff), good night, and good luck.

Guys,
thanks for the updates from Sueno-MLS 2009 held at San Bernardino Soccer Complex. Appreciate all the pics - kinda' wished there was more video though. Unbelievable, over 600 attendees and it had to brought down to 24!!! Wow - those judges/selectionists must have been very busy. A lot of congrats to all of the participants who came out and got their shot at impressing. Please put up the info on the finalists when you guys can... By the way, those LA Galaxy white polo shirts look really nice - a clean, sharp look.
Okay here's the scores from the LA Galaxy Youth Academy matches this weekend:
Saturday, Mar. 28th:
U-16s: LAG 1 - ARS 2
U-18s: LAG 1 - ARS 3
[NOTE: Arsenal club team was ranked National Champions in the past several years - winning titles and trophies]
Sunday, Mar. 29th:
U-16s: LAG 3 - POR 0
U-18s: LAG 5 - POR 0
[NOTE: FC Portland did not have a full complement of players available - so subbing in for them was not much of an option]
On another note, I think the US was very lucky to come away with a draw (2 - 2) against El Salvador, the way El Salvador played for most of the game. Some way, somehow the US battled back in the last 15 - 20 minutes of the game. It makes me worried for their other competitions. Hope they do way, way better on April 1st against T&T.
