Monday Pre-Training Session Notes

It might be too early to call Sueño MLS a success, but the 600 allotted slots for the LA Galaxy tryout filled up in five hours! Registration opened up at 3 p.m. and was at capacity by 8 p.m. More than 800 participants total signed up the first day. People can still continue to register online on the waiting list-- The winner of the first Sueño MLS, Jorge Flores, went from being on waiting list to winner. The tryouts will be held March 28-29 at the San Bernardino Soccer Complex.

In other news, CONCACAF announced today that The Home Depot Center will host the opening game of the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup on July 3.

In more on-the-field-related news, after announcing the deal General Manager and Head Coach Bruce Arena and President of Business Operations Tom Payne talked to the media yesterday via conference call. The call lasted 30 minutes.

Bruce gave an overview of what David's return schedule and also talked about Landon having an increased leadership role on the squad. Tom explained the rollbacks, which is something that was actually in the works prior to the agreement.

We've included at least one question from each reporter on the call in an effort to give you a good sample of the came. Here's what they had to say.

Also, we're two weeks away from the season opener against D.C. United, but only a week away from our final preseason encouter-- a friendly against the Chicago Fire in Tempe, Ariz. this Saturday at 7 p.m. If you can't make it to Sun Devil Stadium, you listen online through LAGalaxy.com a live stream of the game with Joe Tutino handling the play-by-play.

Here's a video to get you amped about the match.

Thanks so much for making an online stream of the game. I can't make it to Arizona and I was hoping to be able to listen to the game.

I also appreciate very much the improved comminication on the blog from last year to this year. The reports are longer, more detailed and more frequent.

I know we often complain so much about so many things, but I wanted to thank you for your efforts.

I'm going to echo what Nicole had commented above. If I choose to do so - I can sit here and list out gripes and complaints at how several areas towards fan loyalty, fan ownership, and fan satisfaction from the LA Galaxy organization are lacking. But, complaints in repetoir will only eventually lead to disinterest, dullness, and a disconnect.
So, I am very glad to know and hear that Bruce & Tom decided to have the tele-conference with the LA reporters. That took class and sense of responsibility. So, my thanks to Bruce and Tom for holding the teleconference.
Next, I do not mean to disrespect David nor Bruce nor Landon. But, how "interested", "passionate", "effective", and "enduring" David will be to the LA Galaxy team and its results on-field has yet to be seen when he comes in July of 2009. Again, I would like to give the club & organization the benefit of the doubt - but, we've been led-on and high-strung too many times before.
As Tom had pointed out - the original LA Galaxy fans wants the quality, the leadership, the ownership, the toughness, and the heart of the LA Galaxy we have experienced, seen, and shared with in the past. No, it's not me being nostalgic - I know that nothing remains the same, and things change... but, there has been awful decisions, risks, and hasty moves made by past leadership into completely decimating the power, the force, and core that we had. I just hate it when our club starts of games timid, slow, unaware, off-guard... only, to rush, kill-ourselves trying to catch up in the second-half of matches. Our players should already be fully prepared, mentally & physically fit to command matches from the very start. I really want Bruce & Dave to seriously address the back-line and midfield of our team. We keep getting over-run and out-played in those areas. I sincerely hope and wish we have Eddie Lewis, Chris Klein, Jovan Kirovski, Dema Kovalenko, Edson Buddle, Mike Magee, Landon Donovan, and all of our defenders completely healthy and fit all season. Without these players, we are going to continue to not hold our own. The timing, the ball-movements, the coordination, passes, and crosses have to be well-rehearsed, accurate, and constantly threatening.

Can't wait for the game this Saturday. Please don't get embarrassed Galaxy. At least if Chicago wins, it's not on TV, haha.
