Notes:
- With the loss, the Galaxy are now 7-12-8 on the season, leaving them on 29 points and alone in seventh place in the Western Conference. The Galaxy are currently six points behind Real Salt Lake for the third and final guaranteed playoff spot in the Western Conference and five points behind FC Dallas and Colorado (who play later tonight) for fourth place.

- Head coach Bruce Arena made three changes to his starting lineup from the 3-1 loss at Chicago on August 25. Goalkeeper Josh Saunders and central midfielders Joe Franchino and Peter Vagenas were in the lineup, replacing Josh Wicks, Ante Jazic and Alan Gordon. Franchino and Vagenas each started in central midfield, with Greg Vanney moving to Jazic’s position of left back and Landon Donovan starting up front alongside Edson Buddle in lieu of Gordon.

- Josh Saunders made his MLS debut in goal for the Galaxy. An MLS veteran, Saunders spent two seasons (2003-04) with the San Jose Earthquakes, who drafted him in the third round of the 2003 MLS SuperDraft. He was with the Galaxy from 2005-06, winning an MLS Cup with the club before spending the last two years in the USL First Division with the Puerto Rico Islanders and Miami FC.

- Saunders is the third different goalkeeper to be used by the Galaxy this season, joining Steve Cronin and Josh Wicks. The only other time that the Galaxy have used three different goalkeepers in a season was in 1997 when Jorge Campos, David Kramer and Kevin Hartman each saw time in goal for the Galaxy.

- Joe Franchino started his first game since July 4, playing in central midfield for the opening 69 minutes before being replaced by Bryan Jordan.

- With his first half yellow card, David Beckham will be suspended for his next Galaxy game.

- Chris Klein started for the 112th consecutive game, extending his own MLS record. He is the only Galaxy player to appear in all 27 of the club’s games so far.

- With Alejandro Moreno’s goal in the 43rd minute have now allowed the first goal in eight of their last 10 games, including each of their last six away from The Home Depot Center. This year the Galaxy are 2-12-4 when allowing the first goal, while the Crew are 12-0-0 when scoring the first goal.

- The Galaxy were shutout for the sixth time this season, forcing three saves from Columbus goalkeeper William Hesmer. Despite the clean sheet, the Galaxy still lead MLS in goals scored with 50.

- With the loss, the Galaxy are now 1-6-4 all-time at Crew Stadium.

- The attendance for tonight’s game was a sellout crowd of 22,685, the biggest crowd for a game at Crew Stadium this season.

Quite honestly, the LA Galaxy now has to accept that it is next to impossible to make it into the play-offs. The point here is: did the organization learn from their troubles, mistakes, and gambles? A money-making organization does NOT equal to a winning, quality, tournament-tested organization. Houston Dynamo and New England Revs have shown in the past couple of years how to put together a winning, quality, tournament-tested organization. And, this year - Chicago and Columbus are showing the rest of the league their strengths and capabilities. This LA Galaxy team needs more quality, and definitely more speed. The problem is the current salary cap. This issue has to be addressed.

I think one can safely assume that Houston, Chivas USA, and FC Dallas are probably going to be the three Western teams that clinch the play-offs this year. LA Galaxy needs quality, strength, and most definitely speed. Without it, every other team will continue to overwhelm and over take this team.

Donovan must go. he is line for MVP??? He has no heart, no passion no fire, there is no football in his blood. he has speed, nothing else. Send him back to Germany to face real players and a German winter and see him come back again in tears.

Where does this leave Wicks? This is not the NHL you can't flip flop goalies. If Saunders gets results in the next three and lets in 3 goals or less total, I think he has a shot to take the reins next year. Then bye Cronin and Wicks.

Saunders was only really tested twice - one save - one goal - everything else was lobbed in from outside and my mother could have caught them! Will wait and see what he does.

What happened to the Galaxy? It has always been a unique club but everything that used to set it apart seems to be gone.
Cobi Jones helped build that organization and unfortunately since his retirement seems to be irrelevant which is so unfortunate. What has Arena done lately? Tim L should have let CJ finish out this season as head coach as he has true passion for the game and for the club.
Maybe Jones should just come out of retirement even if it means playing 20 minutes a game, he will set the pace as a leader...he has this impact on players.
And i agree with the comment above...Donovan is USELESS he shows up maybe 50% of the time and there is no excuse for that...good luck overseas they will eat him alive!

Where is Charlesj27????????? Who cares..... He posts the same comments in multiple blogs. I always skipped his winded analysis of each posting.

get Paul Bravo out of there and find someone who is capable of scouting quality and accountable players, then maybe the Galaxy has a shot of finding the playoffs next year. My 10 yr old son is more capable!

Couldn't agree more! Look at bravo's track record...he is killing the organization. He should have been gone when Lalas was gone!

No kidding, bravo is a joke to the organization. He is more suited to picking Miss LA Galaxy than picking quality players
