Come and Go

The Galaxy signed two players today to their Developmental roster, inking deals with defenders Scott Bolkan and Vardan Adzemian. Both players will be sent out on loan to the Portland Timbers, who open their season in the USL First Division on Thursday night against the Puerto Rico Islanders.

Here is what Paul Bravo, who returned from a 10-day trip to South America this morning had to say about the signings, as well as some more info on Scott and Vardan.

"We have had a strong relationship with the Timbers for a number of years and I am glad that we can continue that relationship here by loaning them a pair of players who can benefit their team this season,” Galaxy Director of Soccer Paul Bravo said. “Both Vardan and Scott are good young players and we feel that their experience in Portland will serve them well in their professional careers.”

A veteran of the MLS Reserve Division where he has played with Chivas USA, the Chicago Fire and Kansas City Wizards, Adzemian played for PDL side Ventura County Fusion in 2007. Born in Armenia and raised in Los Angeles, Adzemian began his professional career in Greece in 2002 at the age of 18 with First Division team AEK Athens. The 24-year old later went on to play for fellow First Division club Panathinaikos, as well as FC Pavlos Melas of the Second Division and Third Division side FC Marko.

A big and physical central defender, Bolkan spent four years at Stanford where he was a three-time All-Pac 10 performer, including a first team selection as a senior in 2007 when he scored a career-high three goals. A native of Salem, Ore., Bolkan played 66 games during his time with the Cardinal, starting 60 of those contests before appearing at the MLS Player Combine in January.

For those of you who do not already know, that is Vardan at the top of the page and Scott there at the bottom.

So do we lose these dev positions for our team or do we still have three left since they are out on loan. Also any news on the 3 guys from the Cuban U-23 team?

Vardan... Scott... Glad to have both of you in our team - although since you guys are being loaned out to Portland Timbers - I guess we won't be seeing much of both of you. Too bad, I would have really liked to see both of you guys play. But, at this point, Portland Timbers can really use you guys - that means constant & regular playing time! Good! Stay healthy - stay fit - and keep learning as much as you guys can! Best of luck!
Thanks for giving all of the fans this update - we appreciate the blog's efforts. So, how is everything coming along for this Saturday's match against Houston Dynamo - "Back-to-Back 2-time MLS Champions"... and, let's not forget - that the week after that is the first Super Classico against our cross-town rivals, Chivas USA. I'm telling you LA Galaxy fans - these are going to be very difficult games for us. They are experienced, high-intensity, high-pressure teams... and, if we are "off" our game - they will quickly exploit our mistakes and make us play very badly! We cannot blame things on the heat or the rain or the pitch or travel - NO EXCUSES!!! The most critical thing is we have to ... we have to score goals - as quickly and as decidedly as possible.
Please let us know how the Cuban U-23 trialists are coming along? I hope that Ruud, Cobi, Trevor, Chris, and Armando are watching and helping them. How is Carlos Ruiz doing? Is he getting back into playing form? I hope so - we will need him.
Also, you had mentioned that Paul Bravo just came back from South America after ten days... Is it possible to expand on that? He was there, because...????
I can only hope that our LA Galaxy will not have to swallow another stinging defeat! Please continue to keep us informed. Go Galaxy.
