Galaxy U-20's Fall to Columbus in Super-20 Final

As disappointing as yesterday's loss to the Fire was, the day was made that much sadder with the news that the Galaxy U-20's fell 2-1 in the USL Super-20 Final against the Columbus Crew Juniors in Rockford, Ill.

The two sides met on Sunday morning after winning a pair of games on Saturday to qualify for the Final. But despite the clear level of fatigue on both sides, the game was a spirited one as each team looked for their first Super-20 Championship.

The Crew took the lead 10 minutes before halftime, only for Gyasi Zardes to equalize for the Galaxy three minutes later and send the game into the break level at 1-1.

The score stayed that way for most of the second half and it appeared as if the Galaxy would be heading to extra time for the second straight game. But with just 10 minutes remaining, a foul was called inside the Galaxy's box resulting in a penalty kick, which beat Galaxy goalkeeper Earl Edwards to give the Crew a 2-1 win and the title.

While they did not come home with the championship as they had hoped, everyone here with the Galaxy is proud of the play of our U-20's and we look forward to welcoming them back to the area.

Congrats to all of the parents and players in the Super U-20 Championship run. Really well-deserved; great work; and, way to go for staying positive and in there over and over again to get this far!
