The Galaxy roster shrunk by one this afternoon when Peter Vagenas was taken by the Seattle Sounders FC in the MLS Expansion Draft.
The longest tenured player with the Galaxy this season, having been with the club since 2000, Vagenas appeared in 14 games for the club this season, making 11 starts, tallying one goal and adding three assists.
A native of Pasadena, Calif., Vagenas played four years at UCLA, winning a National Championship in 1997, before being drafted by the Galaxy in the second round (23rd overall) of the 2000 MLS SuperDraft. He would go on to play nine seasons with the Galaxy, helping the club win five titles, including two MLS Cup championships. His 183 regular games played and 164 games started in a Galaxy uniform are the fifth most in club history. In that time, Vagenas tallied 14 goals and 25 assists, which are the sixth most in club history.
The 30-year old enjoyed his best season with the Galaxy in 2005 when he captained the club to the MLS Cup/U.S. Open Cup Double. He appeared in 29 of the club’s 32 games that season, scoring a career-high five goals to go along with four assists.
With Pete now heading north to Seattle, Alan Gordon is now the Galaxy's longest tenured player, having joined the club in 2004.

VIVA VAGENAS!
Say what you will, but this guy was bleeding green/gold blue/white
Agreed. Not only that, but he was the only center mid on the team this year who would actually run the mid when he was out there.
Bruce and Co. are going to have to do some serious work to get us a center mid who can be a leader on the field.
Wish Pete lots of luck w/ Seattle, if he decides to stay there.
Okay, Bruce, Dave, Cobi, and Paul - now, you guys are going to have to find suitable replacement(s). But, I'm sure that this has already been factored in (I hope?).
This team needs to be tougher, harder, more competitive, and willing to dominate on the pitch. Otherwise, it'll get upsetting and ugly fast early on!
A loyal club servant who was entrusted with playing positions in the middle that were beyond his capabilities. Not tough enough to win balls and definitely not creative enough to drive a major team offensively. Let's see if Bruce is smart enough to bring in a proper mid-field tandem to shepard this team to success.
aw dang see he shoulda been protected that coach knew what was going on when he was doing the selections
Terrible move by the Galaxy! Other one to add to the long list. A few years ago we were a championship team and we have completely gutted the team. We need players not stars. Good luck Pete!
MAYBE NOW, MANAGMENT CAN START LOOKING FOR GOOD PLAYERS THAT WILL HELP THE TEAM, WE NEED A CENTRAL DEFENDER AND A CENTRAL FORWARD, PLEASE MAKE GALAXY A CONTENTER AGAIN, WE NEED TO STOP BEING MEDIOCRE BECAUSE THE CHIVOS NEXT DOOR ARE GETTING BETTER THAN US, AND THAT CAN NOT BE POSSIBLE.
