Deals Completed

A couple of moves that have been talked about in the media over the last couple of days have just become official.

The Galaxy have signed Eddie Lewis and traded Carlos Ruiz to Toronto FC in exchange for a first and second round pick in the 2009 MLS Supplemental Draft and salary budget considerations.

As most of you probably already know, Eddie played for the U.S. National Team last night in the 1-0 win over Guatemala, but had to leave the game in the 65th minute after being violently elbowed in the face by Gustavo Cabrera, who was sent off for the host.

Both Lewis, and Landon Donovan who played 90 minutes in that game, are expected to be at The Home Depot Center tonight, with Bruce Arena deciding upon their availability.

Good to know / have confirmed finally. Thanks for the important updates. Also, do we know if Joey Franchino and Troy Roberts will be listed as "Probable" for selection in tonight's game against Chicago? We need all the defensive help we can get. We need to stop having goals scored against us. I think (And, yes - I hate to say it) that Landon & Eddie should not play tonight... or if it's a must - then, bring them on in the second half. I know I may sound crazy for saying it. But, this team - with Bruce, Dave,a nd Cobi needs to see first hand how the other team members perform tonight when under pressure and strong applied force. If this team is going to make it to the 2008 MLS Play-offs, then everybody else (besides David, Landon, Sean, Chris, and Edson) has to... MUST step up. They must step up convincingly!!! We cannot afford to keep losing points and giving away goals.
Eddie - welcome to the LA Galaxy... and, welcome back to So Cal. I hope that you are able to seriously help this team and all of its existing members!!!
I'm also glad to hear that LA Galaxy got 1st & 2nd Round Supplemental Draft picks out of the Carlos Ruiz trade. Okay, Paul... Okay Dave... Okay Cobi - start to prepare and test and scout now!!! Get several names lined up - so you guys don't have to scramble and lose out on future team members!!!
Are we ever going to hear back of Mandou Bojang - the Gambian Central Defender Trialist our team practiced with and got to know over a period of 2 weeks? Again, I ask - what are deciding upon with Vardan and Scott Bolkan? Any updates there? Couldn't we use them? Are they not ready - not good enough?

I agree with Charles. I am also wondering about the 3 gambian players, with the central defender being of the highest importance.

GREAT news! Good riddance Ruiz, especially after kicking Tim Howard in the head last night. Go flop and fake injuires elsewhere. As for Eddie, I think this is a smart addition. He is an effective, experienced midfielder that will add depth and dimension to the team. This is a critical time for the Galaxy so I hope he clicks with the boys right away... GO GALAXY!!!

you guys are happy to said bye to Ruiz now, but your forgetting that thanks to him and all his great goals, back in 2002 LA Galaxy claimed a MLS title....Ruiz is not at his 100% yet, but is not Ruiz's fault that he gets hurt and can't play and when he can the stupid coach wouldn't put him to play, or you guys are forgetting the friendly on the post season where Ruiz scored 3 goals??? I think you guys need to educate yourselves in soccer a little bit more because soccer in the US it's something new so you guys don't have that much knowlege on the topic.....as far as the "kick" he (Ruiz) gave Howard last night, he didn't even touch him (Howard), soccer is a game for men not for kids - last, the Lewis and Cabrera incident last night on the US vs Guatemala game was an accident, Cabrera was trying to hit the ball, is clear that Cabrena never went to Lewis with the intention of hurting him - the whole game was full of BS and as far as the Galaxy, don't get your hopes up, Ruiz might be out but your lack of wins will not change

Ruiz carried this whole team on his shoulder first time around and I'm indebted to him. Feel sorry that a bad tackle spoiled his return home.

Eddie Lewis is an ordinary player who'll be of little consequence to this team.

I want a midfield general NOW.

I hope the Galaxy don't make to the playoffs. How they look right now as a team, they don't look as contenders for the MLS Cup. And I agree with the post above, don't forget who brought you the 2002 title. The challenge between Lewis & Cabrera was a 50-50 ball. Cabrera did not go for any intentions of hurting Lewis.

We should feel no ill will towards Ruiz. It just didn't work out for him with the emergence of buddle and his injury in the 1st game of the season. Whether he fits in Toronto remains to be seen. Robert didn't do much there and with the departure of Edu and Dichio hurt again, he'll be relied upon to carry the team down the stretch.

I hope that now that Bruce Arena is in charge we will see the Galaxy play with more spirit. The only games that they showed that they really wanted toplay were the games against New York. The rest of the games have been in "slow motion". I'm sorry to see Ruiz go. I believe that in time he would have shown why he was brought to LA in the first place. Unfortunately time is something tha Galaxy does not have. as for Eddy Lewis, I have no doubt that he will be an asset to the team. The real problem as I see it is that there is no depth to the team roster. Do we have to wait 'til next season?

I'll laught my butt when ruiz scores against la galaxy, for real

Ruiz gave us our last MLS cup. Good luck Fish!!!
Also, can we sign a real defensive mid? Someone have yo ricover the ball and give to Becks and Landon in their feets..
Pires work really hard but just to give the ball away. What about Sammler, Corrales, Richeti?

something that U.S. soccer association forget is the real value of the players and I know when Ruiz plays against la galaxy I'll be a massacre, why? because la galaxy is going to kill him just because a good player wants he's country go for the first time to the world cup. remember Pando Ramirez he won mls cup for galaxy, carlos ruiz did it too and because they play againts u.s. players they kick both of them out the team? please think about the value of any player, forget about the things they do to get a xtra money. I hope he does more than ok in toronto. I feel sorry for the people from la galaxy that still dont believe in the value of a good player like carlos ruiz.

I hope we dont regret trading Ruiz. Seems to me he never had a chance and LA was quick to let him go. Good luck
