Becks on Beijing

As most of you already know, the Closing Ceremonies of the Olympic Games are one of the most watched spectacles in all of sports, with millions upon millions of people watching around the world. And with Beijing ready to pass the torch on to London, our own David Beckham will be there front and center.

What part he will play in the flag handover ceremony is still unknown, but we're sure, based on the reaction he received wherever we went in China this spring, the people of Beijing will cheer their hearts out for Becks.

Here's what he had to say about the event last week,

Good for becks. Many fans asked why he would fly to beijing instead of of flying back to la to play thursday. People asked about his commitment to the galaxy. lets face it, after that flight he wasnt going to play anyways. landon dint play thrsday after flying back and his flight was 5 or 6 hours. GO GALAXY!

Can we please get updates on Joey Franchino and Brandon McDonald! We can really use both of their tenacity, strength, competitiveness, and fight in the coming games. Will they be ready to play? How about Eddie Lewis? Is he recovering okay? We have critical matches coming up: against New England Revs, Real Salt Lake, Kansas City Wizards, DC United, and Chicago Fire again. We need to have a full-strength defensive, attacking, and controlling squad. We have to have consistency in all our 18 players picked for coming matches. Any type of summary, lessons learned video next week (ie: WITG feature)?

Don't any of you read the Galaxy website?

In the weekly update, it gives the latest injury report, plus what the injuried players are doing to recover.

In response to the "Anonymous" commentor (08/24/08 @ 8:51 PM) above:
YES, I do look at BOTH the news & roster sections of the LA Galaxy main site at least three (3) times a day. And, yes in the "Weekly Update" dated 08/19/08 (last Tuesday) it did mention the statuses of our injured players and the on-field physical therapy regimen that they are conducting with JOHN IRELAND.
Now, if you have the time please take a look at the news section of the LA Galaxy main site: It still lists both Joey Franchino and Troy Roberts (as of 08/25/08 @ 07:00 AM as "OUT" on injury. Hmmm - what to believe? Weekly Update is more recent you're probably thinking. Okay, then: in the roster section of the LA Galaxy main site, it makes no updates or mention of having Bruce Arena & Dave Sarachan to the official staff. And, Bryan Jordan is still listed as #27 on our team roster - but, it was clearly said that he would be out on loan to Portland Timbers for the rest of the season.
So as a knowledgeable soccer fan and as a an accountable human being - I'm supposed to say to myself - "Oh, it's a discrepancy or two, what's the big deal? I'm only paying $80 per seat Sideline seating to some games. It's only the highest charged seating & entrance fee in all of MLS." Sorry, money doesn't grow on trees and then fall into my lap each day so that I can just spend it without judgement. To me, the FO of the LA Galaxy does not see this as a high enough priority. To me, the professionalism, accountability, and love for this sport is not brought with them to work each & every day - where their actions can be sliding by un-noticed! Why is it that New England Revs, or Colorado Rapids or San Jose Earthquakes or Toronto FC can have their sites updated every other day with splendid, correct, timely info and we can't???? I will not stand for laziness, lack of passion, and lack of accountability. Not just in soccer - but in daily life.
