Notes:
• With the loss, the Galaxy are now 9-5-11 on the season, leaving them with 38 points. LA remains in second place in the Western Conference, two points behind first place Houston, who are at Columbus on Sunday and one point ahead of third place Seattle, who won 2-1 at D.C. United earlier to night.
• Bruce Arena used the same starting 11 that beat Chivas USA 1-0. There was one change however as Edson Buddle joined the team on the bench for the first time since spraining his right foot in the friendly against AC Milan on July 19. He entered the game in the 69th minute, replacing Jovan Kirovski.
• This was the third consecutive game in which the Galaxy have used the same starting lineup.
• The Galaxy were without four players for tonight’s game, with Alecko Eskandarian, Sean Franklin, Dema Kovalenko and Julian Valentin all missing the game through injury. On Friday, Eskandarian was placed on the Disabled List with a head injury, meaning that he will now miss a minimum of the next six games.
• The Galaxy allowed two goals in the first half of a game for the first time this season and just the second time that they allowed two goals in any half this year. The only other time LA allowed two goals in a half this season was in the second half of the Galaxy’s 3-2 loss vs. Colorado on April 4.
• That game was also the only time that the Galaxy had allowed three goals or more in a game before tonight. LA is now 0-2-0 when allowing three goals or more in a game and 1-0-0 when scoring three goals or more in a game, beating New York 3-1 on July 16.
• The nine goals scored in tonight’s game tied the mark for the second most goals scored in a Galaxy game. LA also played a game that saw nine goals scored on August 18, 2007 (5-4 loss at New York) and June 4, 1998 (8-1 win at Dallas). On May 6, 1998, the Galaxy played in the highest scoring game in MLS history, a 7-4 win over Colorado.
• The Galaxy cut the Dallas lead to 2-1 in the 26th minute with an own goal for Jair Benitez. That was the first own goal scored in favor of the Galaxy this season and their first since October 12, 2008 when Ugo Ihemelu scored in the 70th minute of LA’s 3-2 win over the Colorado Rapids.
• DeLaGarza was replaced by Tony Sanneh to start the second half. He had played 914 consecutive minutes in MLS play.
• Edson Buddle scored his fourth goal of the season in the 90th minute, he is now alone in second place on the team in goals.
• David Beckham assisted on that goal for his second assist of the season.
• Chris Klein entered the game in the 74th minute, replacing Eddie Lewis, stretching his MLS record consecutive games played streak to 140.
• The six goals allowed by LA were a club record. They had never before allowed more than five goals in a game before today. The last time LA had allowed five goals in a game was on August 18, 2007 in a 5-4 at New York.
• Prior to the second half of tonight’s game, the Galaxy had never allowed four goals or more in a single half of an MLS regular season game.
• The attendance for today’s game was 18,148.
• The Galaxy host Toronto FC next weekend with kickoff at 7:30. The game can be seen live on FS West, starting at 7:30 and will be followed by a special postgame edition of Galaxy Live immediately following the game.

What happened!!!!! I can't believe how bad our defense was. It was like deja vu from last year. It looks like we can't have that extra time off. Bruce, you have your work cut out for you this week.

Not upset; disappointed - YES; but, not upset. Quite frankly, in hind-sight, this massive goal-fest laiden loss will do its job in serving a purpose for, mainly, HC & GM Bruce Arena.
We are a very good defensive-oriented team; Bruce had a very strong heart & hand in that. But, even seemingly, strong defensive teams have their weaknesses and cracks. FC Dallas in the past 4 / 5 days have got to add 3 new players. FC Dallas also played with a much more potent speedy frontal & wing-side attacking line-up. Since our left-side was composed of Eddie Lewis, Todd Dunnivant, and at times, Gregg Berhalter... FC Dallas saw that invitational gaping crack and continuously found chances and opportunities on that side. We had two players coming off of international duties (flights) that we heavily (more than 75%) rely on for set-ups and attacking.
Our main weak-points (in my view/eyes) continue to be:
a) Berhalter as Central Defender
b) placing Kirovski as Forward/2nd Striker - when clearly he does NOT have the legs nor the ability to grab & hold
c) expecting Eddie Lewis to cover left-wing and come back to help with defensive middle and quickly run back to left-mid/left-forward.
Bruce... it's glaringly obvious - teams are exploiting us badly because of this!!! Stop being aloof, arrogant, and quizical. I know you have no power to do anything about it this season - but, it MUST... MUST be taken care of next season.
Conclusion:
a) we allowed 6 goals; so Goals Against category just got nuked.
b) we added one more loss to our stats - to me, that's not a biggie other than the fact it's a HOME loss, adn, we can't keeping giving away points to AWAY teams.
c) we are still sending way too many players into the 6-yard box for diagonal crosses when it's clearly better to have one player on either wing-side and outside 18 to pick up loose balls and re-set attack/crosses.
d) it was Bruce's decision to put Alecko on Disabled List; so, what do we have to show for it??? What's the intenet plan, Bruce???

This game was just horrible.

I'll say it: this team played better before our part-time player got here. We had more bite in the midfield, we had more cohesion all over the field. His style of game does not fit in with this team: long ball, which doesn't quite get to where it's supposed to go; lack of adequate defense, slow. The list could go on and on. I wish Bruce would see the light.

Look, the league is getting wise to old man Berhalter. He get torched all the time. He needs to retire or at least sit. If you look back to most of the losses, Berhalter is directly or indirectly responsible for giving up the goals. He's been a huge liability and a diminishing asset for most of the season. There's a name for has-beens like him: "coach." For the good of the team, Greg, like Dichio did for TFC. Please!!!

No respectable defense can survive with that kind of "teamwork" in front of them. Bruce has finally paid for this meek line up of the last few weeks.

Donovan should have been rested, Beckham should have been subbed and the Kirovski/Magee tandem should not re-appear again in public.

MEG and Nicole must look for a new "great" payer to drooool over.

We got beat by fielding the weakest roster possible. Im surprised bruce didn't rest Donovan and Beckham too. Come on Dunivant was burnt by his man the whole game, Magee was clueless and Kirovski was a bust as usual. We lost our best defender at half and replaced with the slowest guy on our team Sanneh? Why sit Buddle, Klien and Gordan to start? Just plain bad coaching last night topped with horrid play.

I agree with Anonymous about Berhalter being beat, but who goes in his place? Our defense has held strong all season, but last night, seemed to be taking a break. Youth and speed did them in.
I don't agree with other Anonymous regarding Beckham. His passing is still on the money, but our offense has been hurt by the injuries of Edson and Alecko. Now that Edson seems to be getting stronger, maybe David's passes will be to someone who can get them in.
We still have the second best loss record, we just need to get it together for the balance of the season.

lets not rip off beerholder right now. were all looking for someone to blame. were still number 2 in the west and 4th overall. it was buddles first game since july and he scored as a substitute. he and donovan are part of an exclusive club of five men with over 70 goals in their career. i think it was a horrible idea to take out alecko for the rest of the season. i ran into him pre game above the stands walkway.
word for word:
"aleckooooo! what are you doing!? i heard you were out. that suuucks. we need you down there man. your nose looks fiiine."

"i know i hate it man but its doctors orders."

and as for this loss....i know were better than this. i predicted 3 goals against dalls, but no one would have guess this result. so techinically we did great offensively. and im only taking as a hiccup that happens among the best of teams. were gonna tear toronto apart after this disappointment. too bad rickett's and our goals against record is destroyed now.

I agree with Charles, Surprised huh? These kinda games happen,it just happened against LAG,wipe the slate clean and lets move forward.
I call them as I see them, Our Central Midfielders(Berhalter/Omar)
were exposed badly due to there lack of speed, and you can bet teams will view this game, and try the same tactics for the playoffs.
All Beckham has to bring to the table is his name,NOTHING MORE.
Our Midfielders played terribly, and I mean terribly, there age caught up with them also.
A.J apparently was a bigger loss then we all would think. As I stated a few months ago, when Bruce wants him to pushup in the attack, he will. Well apparently thats what Bruce wanted this game cause he definetly Pushed-Up. The one positive thing from this game is teams now know we can attack from there left side. Any updates on AJ's Injury?

If the fiasco of last Saturday night is repeated in forthcoming games, the galaxy will lose a substantial number of fans.

The problems faced by the galaxy team could undoubtedly be alleviated by bringing in new players, even at this late stage of the season. Other clubs are doing it, e.g. fc dallas, and it has helped them win games. The HC/GM and his staff need to be spurred into action before it's too late.

It would be awsome if this blog did some actual reporting for once instead of just I've longed for the day when the Galaxy can have a blog page of the caliber of Soccerbyives or Goff's soccer insider. It's Tuesday already, why no update on AJ? What exactly is wrong with Eski? Has anyone said anything about the game?
