I think it's very good for the LA Galaxy team to get this pre-season exposure. Playing live matches in front of massive amounts of people in foreign stadium(s) will show the LA Galaxy team its challenges and weaknesses. It's a very good way to prep the team for the coming 2008 MLS season. MLS teams of today are extremely competitive. Our LA Galaxy must take every opportunity to find pre-season playing time.
As Asst-GM, Tom Payne, stated: This Pre-Season Tour is a necessary journey that needs to take place. The LA Galaxy has strived over the past years to build and maintain its international relationships & connections. Venues / events such as these are where the future lie for a strong, budding American Soccer team such as our LA Galaxy. It will be a great learning experience for all of the LA Galaxy's new / young team members. Don't be fooled! It would be a mistake if the LA Galaxy underestimate the skills, practice, and seriousness of today's Eastern Asia/Pacific Coast teams... Soccer practice & play in South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Australia are quite good. They consider themselves to be professional; and, are just as passionate when it comes to this beautiful game.
I need to state this, because I'm really concerned. Why none of us, LA Galaxy fans, have neither heard nor seen anything about acquiring & signing on a Left-Midfield / Winger and a Central-Midfield / Attacker? We really have a need in our current team for these two(2) positions. And, so far none of us have heard anything... All the while, almost every other MLS team are actively acquiring and trading to build themselves up for 2008 and beyond. Again, our LA Galaxy cannot... should not misjudge our weaknesses; From what has happened to us in 2006 & 2007 should definitely teach us NOT to be naieve!!!
Fortifying critical positions on our team is a MUST!
