Fresh off his starring performance against Spain, Landon Donovan received more good news this afternoon as he was officially nominated as the "Best MLS Player" for the 2009 ESPY Awards. He is joined by Juan Pablo Angel, Jon Busch, Kenny Cooper and Guillermo Barros Schelotto.
Landon has been nominated for the award every year since its inception in 2006, winning it in 2006 and 2007 while missing out to teammate David Beckham in 2008. In 2002, 2003 and 2004 Landon was nominated in the “Best Male Soccer Player” category, winning the ESPY in 2002. In 2005, he was nominated in the “Best Soccer Player” category.
