While it was not the best day for the Galaxy captain, he did get a bit of good news as his goal against New England was voted the MLS Goal of the Week. He is the first Galaxy player to win the award this season.
The Galaxy will be looking to make it a perfect sweep of awards with the Save of the Week Award still up for grabs. Donovan Ricketts, the only two-time winner of the award, has been nominated for this save from the win over New England.
Click here to vote and don't forget that voting ends at 11 a.m. (PT) on Thursday.

Actually, it was not a very good showing of soccer aptitude and tenacity by our US team, in general. USMNT Captain Landon can lay it down for us any which way he wants as I am sure Sunil Gulati and Bob Bradley will of course do themselves, also... but, today's display of soccer at Azteca by our USMNT was pretty much: "Play the 90 minutes, do some running around, try to lob the ball forward every now & then, and pray/hope that some of the Mexican NT players get red-carded". But, as the referees for today's match showed us... it's OK to card the US team... Don't card those locos in green - remember, us referees still need to catch a flight outta here. The Mexican players, their head coach, teh stadium + the attendees all are sure of one thing: Rile it up, Stink it up, and Mess it up... those gringos won't know how to sort it out. And, those tactics will continue to work on us every time - until our players learn to play steady, holding, on-the-floor, quick-passing WITH ACCURACY soccer. To me, the players that played today came in with the intention of not getting injured and heading back to their club-team responsibilities as cleanly and quickly, as possible. For USSF - this was just a "checklist" item. Check. Moving on to games on our soil...
Charles, How racist!!!!! I am surprised at you.
Meg,
Racist??? Elaborate, please. I know I made some inferences on the atmosphere within Azteca when a match like this is going on; and, about the fact that refs especially don't certainly feel secure / safe when it's these types of matches of there... but, I don't think that's like a shocker to most people who follow international soccer. I believe there's a reason why national teams that aren't Mexican have a very low win average there; and, all of it's not just due to environmental factors. But, if it offended you - sorry. I know I can't be the only one thinking the same.
Charles if you don't know jow offensive dome of those names are i am not going to repeat it.Yes, I do know International football very well and by that I do not mean USA,
" those gringos won't know how to sort it out. And, those tactics will continue to work on us every time - until our players learn to play steady, holding, on-the-floor, quick-passing WITH ACCURACY soccer"
c27, we kid you a lot about your coaching rants but actually you speak the truth about the fundemental problem with US soccer players of any age and gender.
I keep saying: parents send off your children to Brasil and/or Argentina and bring them back as good soccer players. I can't see our "system" developing them here.
Meg, you're a very bad girl. You knocked out Nicole into cyber oblivion and now you're taking on THE icon of this blog, Sir charles of 27! Now you've gone too far. Appologize to him now or I'll bring Nicole back.
Except now he has Swine Flu
Hi Anonymous, If you weren't anonymous I would take on you too. Nothing to apologize to Charles for. I know he is passionate about soccer(football to real supporters) butthis kind of name calling to me is not appropriate. I am waiting for his post for the Seattle game or should I write it for him. Our players need to dud,duh duh. As for Nicole I can't be responsible for her depression she just has to admit to herself her love for the gorgeous Becks and like the rest of us drool from the terraces.
By the way I was'Rekha' in the above post ,didn't realize my friend had signed on to my laptop.
What charlesj27 said wasn't racist. "Gringos" is what many in Latin America call white people, particularly Americans. Heck, my wife and her family call me a gringo all the time.
And he speaks the truth.
--and do you call them "locos"? I guess we all have our standards, some higher than others.
Meg,
Alright, I can respect that; I don't agree with you that I'm a racist for using those two words. I've been called much harsher and worse by Latino co-workers and friends who I happen to play pick-up games with at times. Again, to you, it was offensive... So, as fellow, passionate fan to another - Apologies. And, no you don't have to accept it. We'll agree to disagree. If you happen to beat me to commenting about LAG-v-SEA post-game... I look forward to reading it :) I'm sure you know this, Meg - passion comes in many forms - some agreeable, some not... Unfortunately, all of us are subjective creatures whether we admit to it or not. I've read both of my comments over again and again... I still feel I was not in the wrong. In any case, I still value many commentor's statements on this blog, and, that includes yours. Enjoy the game!
Meg, do you even know what locos mean? I hate LA soccer moms. Get outta here loca gringa.
Meg,
You get offended by words loco and gringo and then you imply of having higher standards after recently tearing into the happless Nicole with inferences that are 100 times more venomous.
So what can we "anons" conclude from this? Is it a gender thing? All is fair amongst the ladies but us boys need to be at our best behaviour when it comes to our arch arivals? Forget it, I'm taking charles 27's apology back. None needed. You need to grow up and take it on the chin.
This blog is getting awfully interesting now. It's true, SOCCER is life.
And no, saying football doesn't mean you know SOCCER more or than anyone else or are more passionate. it's called SOCCER in this country and it shall remain that way. I hated the LIMEY press jumping all over poor Altidore in his Hull City press conference when he mentioned SOCCER a couple of times.
LIMEY was thrown in there intentionally just for you. We gotta toughen you up in time for game (not match) against the FLOUNDERS SOCCER Club tonite at our home field (not pitch).
BTW, Flounders is kinda tame, is there a better name for them out there?
