Galaxy Drops 5-2 Decision to Colorado

The LA Galaxy lost 5-2 to the Colorado Rapids today in a preseason scrimmage played at The Home Depot Center. Omar González and Tristan Bowen provided the scoring for the home team. Edson Buddle, Todd Dunivant, Bryan Jordan and Eddie Lewis were not available as they continue to rehab their injuries.

Galaxy found themselves in a 3-0 hole in the first half before fighting back, figuratively and literally. Mike Magee provided the team with a spark by challenging Colorado defender Cory Gibbs after a hard foul on teammate Jovan Kirovski near the top of the box.

The ensuing free kick, which Magee took, led to a rebound goal by González, who expertly beat goalkeeper Preston Burpo in the one-on-one encounter. All Connor Casey could do was watch.

In the second half, the Galaxy stepped up and played much better.

A nice run at the defense by Magee led to a good scoring opportunity, but Burpo came up big for the Rapids as he made the stop.

Late in the game, Tristan Bowen cut the Rapids' lead to 3-2 with his first goal of the preseason. But Colorado wasted no time in retaking control as they answered back with a goal of their own a minute later before adding a fifth one with about four minutes left in the game.

Tristan, pictured below, was one of a number of young players who had good showings on the day. The others were A.J. DeLaGarza, González, Yohance Marshall, who almost scored a goal on a header, Josh Tudela, who came in for Stefani Migioranzi in the first half, and Kyle Patterson.

The Galaxy won't have to wait long to play Colorado again. The two clubs will face each other three times in the month of April, including twice in a span of four days. The Galaxy will host the Rapids at The Home Depot Center on April 4 and on April 7, the latter in the U.S. Open Cup play-in game, and travel to Colorado on April 25.

AM 570 and AM 1150 Schedule Announced

For the second consecutive season, AM 570 and sister station KTLK AM 1150 will broadcast a minimum of 24 Galaxy games. Each broadcast will also include a 30-minute pregame show with all home pre-game shows at the LA Galaxy Radio Show stage in Soccer Fest.

For the 12th straight season, Joe Tutino will serve as the radio voice of the Galaxy. A native of San Diego, Tutino will handle the play-by-play duties for all 24 broadcasts as well as hosting the postgame shows. For home matches, former Galaxy assistant coach Ralph Perez will once again join Tutino in the radio booth, providing his insights as the broadcast’s lead analyst.

AM 570 will kick-off it’s broadcast campaign this season when they air the Galaxy’s 2009 season opener against D.C. United, live from The Home Depot Center on Sunday, March 22 at 12 p.m. Click here for broadcast complete schedule.

Galaxy Gamers

Before we pick up a controller, a bit of in-house news to take care. A.J. DeLaGarza changed his uniform number from 16 to 20 and trialist Yohance Marshall changed his from 38 to 5.

Also, Happy Birthday wishes to Landon Donovan, who today turns 27. Bayern Munich takes on Landon's old Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen in a DFB Cup match today at 1:30 p.m. Last season's Galaxy MVP is one of five players on the team that celebrate their birthdays this month-- Josh Saunders (28 - March 2), Josh Tudela (25 - March 13), Jovan Kirovski (33 - March 18) and Sean Franklin (24 - March 21) are the others.

Now, onto the games.

If you would like to meet the Eddie Lewis (the real one, not the virtual one pictured above), here's your chance. Eddie will be in Santa Monica Saturday to take part in the EA Sports FIFA Interactive World Cup regional, where three berths in the National Final in New York and a prize package valued at $2,000 are up for grab. He will be around from about 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica.

Also, on Feb. 26, 2009, Super Mario Kart was crowned the best video game of all-time by the Guinness World Records. We on the blog staff and players on the LA Galaxy wouldn't disagree with that assessment as we are all fans of Mario Kart Wii.

Telemundo 52 came by last week to watch some of the guys play this fun and interactive game. The video is in Spanish, but we feel you will enjoy it anyway. Who wins? You have to watch the video to find out.

Be sure to check back later. We will have a brief recap of today's scrimmage against the Colorado Rapids at 1 p.m.

Bruce Talks David, Roster Cuts and More

LA Galaxy General Manager and Head Coach Bruce Arena talked to the media today after practice. He fielded questions regarding David Beckham, roster cuts and the team's outlook heading into the season opener.

Here's what he had to say.

Also, the Galaxy did not make a selection in today's waiver draft. The club maintains the No. 2 spot in the selection order for the next MLS Waiver Draft.

Boateng Released From Camp; Galaxy Remain Roster Compliant

Rookie midfielder Josh Boateng was released from preseason camp today, bringing the club's preseason roster to 26.

Despite that number being two more than the 24 that are permitted on an MLS roster, not all of those players are currently under contract and as a result, the team is both roster and salary compliant and will not have any more cuts today.

Boateng, a third round pick out of Liberty, had been in camp since it opened in January and played in a couple of friendlies but did not make the 18-man roster in either game at the Pan-Pacific Championship.

A Look at Eddie Lewis

Be sure to head over to lagalaxy.com today to check out Larry Morgan's feature on veteran midfielder Eddie Lewis. The 34-year old is currently sidelined by a hamstring injury, but once he is back out on the field, Lewis will look to have a major impact in his first full season with the Galaxy.

Take a look.

LA Galaxy Heroes Talk Costume Heroes

Preseason is almost over, which means the regular season is upon us. But not everything is all work and no play.

Galaxy players and coaches got a chance to preview the highly-anticipated Watchmen movie last month at a private screening. A nice reward, especially for those that had never been on the Warner Bros. lot.

We caught up with Cobi, Jules and Leo to talk about the screening.

Considered on of the greatest pieces of literature of the 20th Century, Watchmen comes to life on the big screen Friday, March 6.

Last summer the guys had a similar experience when they caught a screening of The Dark Knight, which went on to become one of the biggest movies of all-time.
